|What's New 2001 Archive|
December 16, 2001
Lots of changes this time as the new year approaches.
One is an addition to both the Chronology and the Anime TV List. I've added a statement that I cannot help people find copies of animated programs. There are a couple of reasons for this. I really don't have resources that are unavailable to other people. I've added direct links to my List of Online Video Stores and the more general Animation Web Links pages. These are what I would use to try to track down copies. Unfortunately I just don't have the time to do this for people. E-mails making this request will be ignored in the future. I'm sorry to do this but it is time to warn you even more explicitly than I've done in the past.
A new update of the Chronology includes a brand new section with entries for programs that are currently in production. I'm just starting to work on this and I hope that I will be able to greatly expand it in the next few months.
Three new series have been added to Anime TV List. These are Patapata Hikosen no Boken, a Japanese/South Korean co-production based on two of Jules Verne's novels; Kakuto Ryori Densetsu Bistro Recipe, a martial arts cooking series; and, Yobarete Tobidete Akubi-chan, a new version of the classic comedy series, Hakushon Daimaoh.

Today I've loaded a new update to the Chronology and a few additions to entries in the Anime TV List.
November 26, 2001
Today's update is for the Anime TV List. There is one new series, a short series called Baboo Factory, and make a major catch-up with the inclusion of the Gainax omnibus series of two years ago, Anime Ai no Awa Awa Hour, and its three series. Also, there have been some new additional information addded to or corrections made to several other series.
By the way, I did do an update for the Chronology a couple of weeks ago. I should be able to get back on schedule next week with another Chronology update and more updates to the Anime TV List and Animation Web Links pages. Also, I'm beginning work on an improved (and updated) version of the Rintaro Filmography.
October 17, 2001
Today completes the update of the Anime TV List for the new series just introduced in Japan. This last group includes new versions of old classics like Babel II, Captain Tsubasa, and Cyborg 009 and a much newer series, Taiho Shichauzo. New series cover a wide range of genres, from tennis to vampires. These series are Gekito! Gear Crush Turbo, Hellsing, I Wish You Were Here, Mahoro: Automatic Maiden, Oideyo! Henamon Sekai Kasumin, Piroppo, Rave, Shin Cho Kyo Ryo, Tennis no Oji-sama, and Vampiyan Kids. My must see series, of course, is Kokoro Toshokan which is about the adventures of three teen-age librarians .... In addition to the brand new series, this update adds two that I missed before: Pipo Papo Patrol and Sabaku no Kaizoku! Captain Kuppa.

Today's updates are for the Chronology and Animation Web Links pages.
October 7, 2001
The first update for the new television season in Japan has been uploaded in the Anime TV List. The first new series are Chitcha na Yukitsukai Sugar, Final Fantasy Unlimited, Kaze no Yojimbo, Kuru Kuru Army, Najica Dengeki Sakusen, Otogi Story Tenshi no Shippo, Shiawaseso no Okojo-san, Vandread-The Second Stage, and X. In addition to the new series there have also been some updates to older series.
September 30, 2001
The Anime TV List updates are mostly for the end of series that will begin to be replaced with new series next week. There are also a number of new links on the Animation Web Links pages.
September 26, 2001
A new version of the Animation Web Links page is going up today. It is the first step in an expanded collection of links that I hope to put together during the next few weeks.
September 24, 2001
Today's update is of the Chronology, with a few updated files for the Anime TV List and some new entries on the Animation Web Links page.
September 4, 2001
The major update this week is the Chronology but there has also been some updates for the Anime TV List. Although it probably won't make a real difference in files for a while I've also made a couple of data changes in the Anime TV List entries. I will now be making a distinction between Production Company and Animation Studio (which has been the only production company I've listed in the past except for broadcasters who are also among the producers). I hope the entries will now make the "corporate" picture clearer and more complete. The other new data element is for Sound production personnel.
Another change I've made is removing Ron Kurer's designation of this as a "Top Toon" site since Ron seems to have disappeared from the 'net. Too bad, because Ron provided a lot of useful information to animation fans. Another very useful site whose disappearance I'm finally acknowledging is the Absolut Panushka experimental animation site.
August 14, 2001
At the end of one of the worst "vacations" I've ever had I'm updating the Chronology. Besides the usual update, this version features an expansion in the number of files for the 1970s and 1980s.
August 1, 2001
Today is the third day that I've been updating files in the Anime TV List. I have a couple of new sources with information about program producers and broadcasters that I'm using to update many of the pre-1990s series. It will take some time before these updates are completed. Today is a bit different in that I'm also adding a new series to the list, Real Bout High School.
July 26, 2001
Late as usual, but a new update of the Chronology has now been loaded along with a new version of the Animation Web Links page.
July 19, 2001
Late as usual but not as late as the last time, yesterday and today I've put up the files for the new tv series for early July (plus one May series I missed before) in the Anime TV List. The new series are Cosmowarrior Zero (the first new series based on a Leiji Matsumoto concept in a long time); Fruits Basket; I, My, Me! Strawberry Egg; Mahou Shoujo Neko Taruto; Mamimune Magacho; Nono-chan; Offside; Scryed; Seikai no Senki II; and Shaman King. Also, there have been some new information added to a number of other series.
Finally, I've begun a revision of the Animation Web Links page. The new changes are cosmetic at the moment but the page should be changing shape soon, with a large number of added resources.
July 10, 2001
Finally, a new update of the Chronology has been loaded. I hope I'll be able to get back to a weekly update schedule from now on.
July 2, 2001
Today's upload completes the June 20th update of the Anime TV List. It consists mainly of updates to existing files but there is one new series, Go! Go! Itsutsugo Land. If I work as planned I will finally be updating the Chronology on the 4th of July and uploading that on the next day.
June 20, 2001
Today, a partial version of the update I need to make on the Anime TV List. Included are the first versions of files for Chance Triangle Session, Daisuki! Bubu-Chacha, Figure 17 Tsubasa & Hikaru, Gakuen Senki Muryo, and updates on a few other files. Unfortunately, I have no time to do the other files that I need to update for at least another week. RSN I will complete this update and put up another version of the Chronology. (And make the latest corrections on the Rintaro and Sugii filmographies, add more to the Animation on the Web page, etc., etc.)
May 21, 2001
Unfortunately due to a number of factors I won't bore you with I haven't been able to work on these pages as I would like. Today, I am able to put up new versions of the Chronology and Animation on the Web pages. I hope I will be able to continue updates on a weekly basis from now on.
April 23, 2001
This week's addition is a second batch of new programs to the Anime TV List (with a few corrected entries for some older titles). The new series added to the list are Pachislo Kozoku Gin, Parappa Rapper, Sister Princess, and Z.O.E Dolores,i.
April 16, 2001
This is the big spring addition of new tv series to the Anime TV List. Unfortunately, as always, the entries are mainly at the minimum stage but as least there is a listing here of most of the new series.
New entries include a new version of Anime Complex the anthology series from Pony Canyon and WOWOW, Anime Complex Night with Hanaukyo Maid-tai and Koutetsu Tenshi Kurumi 2shiki. Other returning series are new editions of Taiho Shichauzo (full half-hour episodes this time) and Nintama Rantaro. Its nice to see that Digimon Tamers is appearing.
Of special interest is a new series from CLAMP, Kidou Tenshi Angelic Layer; a new version of the old Dangaioh oav series, Haja Kyosei G Dangaioh; and, a new cgi only series, RUN=DIM.
Other new series are: Comic Party, Dennou Boukenki Webdiver, Galaxy Angel, Gene Shaft, Gyouten Ningen Batsealer, Jungle wa Itsumo Hare Nochi Guu, Mahou Senshi Riui, Noir, Project ARMS, Shin Shirayukihime Densetsu Preetia, The Soul Taker, Star Ocean EX, Super GALS! Kotobuki Ran, and Sushi Azarashi. And there are still a few more whose entries I haven't completed yet or have yet to debut.
The final title is one that I really need information on. Cosmic Baton Girl Comet-san is a remake of the old Comet-san series from the sixties. The question now was the old series animated or not. I have information on both sides of the question. I have seen it described as live action but have also seen at least one still of an animated version. Was it a live action show with an animated opening sequence? Any info on either version would be welcome.
April 1, 2001
Its not a joke, I've actually managed to get the Chronology updated on time this week.
March 26, 2001
Today's update is of the Anime TV List, some twenty or so files have been updated.
March 22, 2001
As promised I'm putting up a few files for the Anime TV List today. The new series is Salaryman Kintarou. The show's broadcast was a bit of an oddity in that the 20 episodes were broadcast 4 at a time over a five-week period.
This weekend I'll be getting back to my regular update schedule with more television files.
March 21, 2001
Between illness and work its been a bad month for these pages. This morning I've finally been able to put up a new version of the Chronology. Tomorrow I will be putting up some updated files for the Anime TV List (plus one new series).
February 26, 2001
Yesterday's planned update was frustrated by server problems. Here it is now ...
This week's major addition is to the Anime TV List. As usual, is is mainly updated files but there is one new one, Hoshi no Ojisama Petit Prince, a tv version of Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince has been added to the list (after earlier being removed from the Unverified list because I thought it was a French program).
In addition, there are a few new links on the Animation Web Links page and I've added an entry for Metropolis, a film that Rintaro is directing on his filmography.
February 21, 2001
I always seem to have problems on the weekends when I'm trying to update the Chronology. Anyway, the latest update is now up.
February 11, 2001
This week's update of the Anime TV List is mainly of additions to existing files. There is, however, one new series entry, Warera Sales Man, an older series that I've just found out about. To be honest, I suspect it may be an earlier edition of Warau Salesman but haven't been able to confirm that as yet.
February 6, 2001
This week's primary update is the latest additions to the Chronology. I've also added a new entry to the Gisaburo Sugii Filmography and a couple of new entries to the Filmography page.
January 28, 2001
This week's update is primarily one of the Anime TV List. Entries have been added for the first new shows of the year: Bakuten Shoot - Beyblade, Chikyu Bouei Kazoku, Chikyu Shoujo Arujuna, Grappler Touga, Hakaima Sadamitsu, Tales of Eternia, and Zoids Shinseiki / Zero. I've also been able to transfer most of the series from the Unverified list to be main list due to confirming information from the new English edition of Anime: A Guide to Japanese Animation (1958-1988). Finally, I've been able to update a lot of series information due to a new filmography of anime writer Shun'ichi Yukimoro. This site will be on the Filmography page shortly.
In addition to all the new entries the Anime TV List is getting a facelist. The title index has been redone so that, among other things it should be quicker to load. Also, the entries are now going to be in a new table format that I hope will make it easier to read the information. To enhance the entries I'm now planning to add more information to the entries. More information about non-Japanese versions will be added as I get it and a new field has been added for information about home video releases.
The last change is to this page. The entries for the previous two years has been moved to a new archive page. The link to that is below.
January 21, 2001
It's been too long since my last update. Unfortunately the Christmas holidays and some work demands have gotten in the way. I hope that things will run a bit smoother for the immediate future. In any event, Happy New Years to you all.
Finally, after four years of searching I have a copy of Anime: A Guide to Japanese Animation (1958-1988) by Andrea Baricordi, Massimiliano de Giovanni, Andrea Pietroni, Barbara Rossi, and Sabrina Tunesi in my hands. I first heard of the original Italian version way back when but couldn't get a copy of it. Then, last year, I found that Claude J. Pelletier of Protoculture Addicts was going to publish an English translation. It has taken them a lot longer than they thought to get it out but it finally came out at the end of the year. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in the history of the commercial Japanese animation industry.
On to my own projects. This weeks's update is of the Chronology.
